I can understand that, in your situation, it may be the very opposite, but usually there's a limit even on basic levels of physical contact so that the receiving end doesn't assume anything. Threading your fingers with someone else, for example, is often seen as much more romantic than simply holding another person's hand in your own.

But I could just be overthinking things.
